Distributed Magento Contribution Day India, 2018

Date: 19th May 2018, 9 AM to 6 PM

Contribution day is a well-known event in the Magento community organized by local partners in presence of Magento Community Engineering Team. Developers come together to open pull requests and validate issues on GitHub. But due to the increasing popularity of Magento and limited size of Community Engineering team it gets difficult for them to be present everywhere. The purpose of Contribution Day is that participants will be able to work side by side with Magento Trainers / Developers on developing features and improvements for the Magento 2 core, create tests, Do cross code reviews, Run tests and check results, Create and merge PRs.

This year in March the first ‘’Distributed’’ Contribution Day was organized to take it beyond geographical boundaries where organizers from 7 different countries (UK, Spain, Netherlands, etc) came together to run the event parallelly in 7 cities.

India holds an important place in the Magento landscape. Magento meet-ups take place across 10 cities in India nowadays. Instead of calling in everyone to one city a Distributed Magento Contribution Day has enabled more people to engage. So, the idea was shared and organizers from 7 cities jumped in to host the event in their cities on 19th May, 2018.

53 developers worked in parallel from 7 cities and by the end of the day 36 pull requests were made.
